The first LOUIS XIII L’Odyssée d’un Roi was auctioned in New York City by Sotheby’s for a total of $134,750. This is the highest sale ever of a decanter of LOUIS XIII and the proceeds will benefit The Film Foundation, an organization that was founded by Martin Scorsese and other leading filmmakers, with the mission of preserving classic cinema. This record is an important milestone in the 142-year history of La Maison de Rémy Martin and will certainly contribute to establish LOUIS XIII as a true icon of luxury.
LOUIS XIII L’Odyssée d’un Roi is a unique collaboration inspired by the first shipments of LOUIS XIII in the late 1870’s and the iconic journeys that followed to the farthest corners of the globe. LOUIS XIII selected, as its traveling companions, three French luxury houses that share the brand’s passion for rare craftsmanship and unbroken tradition, HERMÈS, PUIFORCAT and SAINT-LOUIS. They have contributed their own centuries-old savoir-faire to the creation of a series of three unique masterpieces. These one-of-a-kind treasures have been presented in cities around the world as part of a yearlong travelling exhibition.
Each bespoke trunk designed and hand-crafted by Hermès features a crystal magnum decanter with an exclusive blend of LOUIS XIII Cognac enriched by a selection of the House's most precious eaux-de-vie, and etched with a 19th-century map of the Americas, four tasting glasses by Saint-Louis, all hand-blown and etched with 19th-century maps of different countries within the Americas and a white gold pipette crafted and engraved by Puiforcat.
It was the first of three exclusive auctions with Sotheby’s and is followed by Hong Kong on October 1st and London on November 16th.
We are very pleased that LOUIS XIII L’Odyssée d’un Roi continues the journey of the iconic spirit and its dedication to excellence, craftsmanship and rarity.
